Our wheat

The area of Vaglio Basilicata and neighboring territories in the Alto Bradano district have a particular vocation for wheat production, a sector here among the most flourishing in Italy in terms of both quantity produced and quality. In these areas of the Lucanian hinterland there are areas in which the fertility of the soil and the climatic conditions allow the production of excellent types of cereals including the Senatore Cappelli variety of durum wheat, one of the varieties with which the semolina of the pasta marked by the Terra Antica brand is produced.

Durum wheat is grown on the Canio Ricciuti Farm’s lands located about 1,000 above sea level, here the production cycle begins in November with sowing and ends in July with threshing. A process marked by the cresscita and slow maturation of a completely natural mountain wheat where no use is made of fertilizers and herbicides or other elements of a chemical nature.
