Canio Ricciuti’s farm is a family-run business that has been characterized over time by sheep and goat breeding and the production of durum wheat and typical cheeses such as pecorino and ricotta.
In 1972 the company was recognized regionally, with an award for the best White Lamb, the result of a cross between the Lucanian Gentile sheep and French Ile de France rams; the white lamb produced is served today to guests at La Dimora dei Cavalieri and has excellent organoleptic qualities.
Canio Ricciuti Farm has always operated in accordance with the values of traditional agriculture by pursuing the goals of product quality and excellence both in the cultivation of durum wheat and cereals and in the raising of animals and the production of meats, cold cuts and cheeses.
Durum wheat is grown naturally without the use of chemicals on the farm’s land located about 1,000 meters above sea level. Prominent among them is the very old Senatore Cappelli cultivar of durum wheat, known for being even more digestible than modern varieties and for its negligible gluten content.
Lucano durum wheat has special qualities compared to soft wheat; it contains more carotenoids a greater amount of fiber and antioxidant substances and also retains more water inside. In addition, this type of wheat is cholesterol-free.
With the creation of the
La Dimora dei Cavalieri Agritourism in 2001, the Ricciuti farm intended to incorporate the most modern agricultural policy guidelines aimed at fostering a development model based on multi-activity and complementarity.
The activities of reception, hospitality, organization of cultural recreational activities in which agritourism is extrinsic, still remain connected and complementary to the agricultural activity of cultivation and breeding.
